Louisville Slugger Select PWR USA: Our Detailed Review

Written by Chris

Published on February 22, 2024

Every kid who steps onto a baseball field dreams of hitting bombs. Those powerful, jaw-dropping home runs that soar over the outfield fence. It's a desire that fuels their passion for the game and drives them to work hard to improve their skills. There is no magic bat but young players quickly learn that having a good one is essential if they want to maximize their chances of hitting those dingers. That's where the Louisville Slugger Select PWR comes in.

The hype around the 2023 Louisville Slugger Select PWR is no joke. In this article, we will provide an honest, first-hand, comprehensive review of the Select PWR USA bat. Make sure to read before making any purchase decisions.

2023 Louisville Slugger Select PWR Review (USA)

My son the Louisville Omaha -10 last year but he needed to move to a -8 in his town league. Ever since he started playing travel ball, I've become bat obsessed. We've scoured the market for the best USSSA bats and ended up purchasing the orange Meta and CatX after lots of testing. Recognizing the distinct characteristics of USA bats, which often lack significant pop, I was determined to select the perfect one. The kind that consistently pushes the boundaries of innovation while adhering to the strict standards set for USA bats.

So why did we go with the Louisville Slugger Select PWR over other popular brands like Easton ADV 360 and the Demarini CF Zen? Simple. Similar performance to top brands along with superior durability. We've never had one issue with a Louisville bat and this would've been our family's fourth. The durability is outstanding. Easton ADV is another hot USA bat but we've heard so many stories of them breaking after a few months. However, I do know entire teams that share the same ADV bat for an entire season without any issues. I just don't want to risk it and have my son without a bat in the middle of the season.

Hottest USA Bat

The Louisville Slugger Select PWR stands out as one of the top USA bats available. This is due to its combination of power, performance, and durability. The bat features a three-piece hybrid design that incorporates a composite handle and an alloy barrel, resulting in a balanced swing weight that is perfect for both contact and power hitters.

The Select PWR also features a huge sweet spot and a stiff feel. This allows for energy transfer on contact and increased bat speed through the zone. The massive sweet spot produces the maximum trampoline effect when the ball makes contact with it. This larger and more forgiving sweet spot gives young players a greater margin for error in their swing. Additionally, the bat's innovative PWR end cap helps to reduce vibration on the hands.

First Round Of Batting Practice

So what do you do as soon as you get a new bat? You go right to the local Little League field and try to hit dingers to justify the hundreds of dollars you spent on equipment your child will soon outgrow.

That's exactly where we went and thankfully, this bat rakes. Right from the start, I knew my son was going to love this bat. He had already been swinging a drop 8 in travel so I wasn't too concerned about it being too heavy for him. The bat is slightly end-loaded which gives some kids trouble getting it quickly through the zone but it didn't seem to be an issue. The sound the bat makes after it connects with the ball is pure perfection. I had gotten used to all of these composite bats making uninspiring thuds or pops, so hearing that first hit was great.

Tons of pop

For a USA bat, it has tons of pop and that is exactly what I was looking for. My son is only 10 so he's not consistently hitting balls over the fence quite yet. He has hit a few in batting practice but only with his USSSA bats. Well, that changed after our first bucket of balls. In a bucket of maybe 25 balls, he hit two home runs on a 200-foot field. What made me even happier was that his other hits were all solid line drives. You always hear the saying, a $300 bat can't fix a $5 swing. Well, a $300 bat can elevate a $90 swing.

We left the park giddy about the purchase. The season was starting the following week and he couldn't wait to use it in games. Well, plans changed when he broke his thumb at a birthday party that night. We were all bummed because of all the work he put in in preparation for the season. Thankfully it only sidelined him for three weeks so he was able to play in half of the team's games. While he hasn't had any home runs yet, he's been crushing the ball. I told him that once he stops thinking and swinging for home runs, the home runs will come. A couple of pushups probably wouldn't hurt either.

The sample size has only been a couple of months but this bat has been fantastic so far. Unless he packs on some pounds and hits another growth spurt, this bat should last him at least another season. What's great about Louisville bats is their resale value. I can hopefully recoup half the price and put it towards our next bat.

Purchasing A Bat

When purchasing a new bat, there are a few factors to consider to ensure that you pick the right one. One of the most important factors is the bat's length and weight, which should be appropriate for your size and strength. A bat that's too heavy or too light can negatively impact your swing, so it's important to choose a bat that feels comfortable and balanced in your hands. Additionally, you'll want to consider the bat's drop, which refers to the difference between the bat's length and weight. A higher drop means a lighter bat, which can be good for younger or less experienced players, while a lower drop means a heavier bat better suited for more advanced, bigger players.

Another important factor to consider when purchasing a new bat is the bat's material and construction. Bats can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, alloy, and composite materials, each of which has its own benefits and drawbacks. For example, wood bats are typically more durable and have a traditional feel, but can be more expensive and less forgiving than other materials. Aluminum and composite bats, on the other hand, are often lighter and easier to swing, but may require a break-in period and can be more prone to damage. Ultimately, the right choice for you will depend on your individual preferences and needs, as well as the rules and regulations of your league or organization.
